Doha: Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani attended a ceremony to mark the 19th anniversary of Al Jazeera Media Network, at Al Jazeera headquarters last evening.
Chairman Sheikh Hamad bin Thamer Al Thani, board members and employees of the network, journalists and intellectuals were present.
In a speech, Sheikh Hamad said the Emir gracing the anniversary ceremony is the best testimony to his support for this unprecedented media project in the Arab world, recognised internationally as one of the leading success stories.
“The content of satellite television news the network has provided since its inception, will remain the cornerstone in serving large segments of our viewers,” he said, adding the unique content will continue to be the most important factor in gaining viewers’ confidence, as it was over the past years.
He said the network has taken steps to keep pace with digital and interactive developments, starting with the launch of AJ+ in English.
“While we were the first to launch short films service, we are now preparing to launch the same service in Arabic.
“Building on the success of Al Jazeera Plus, we are working on the launch of innovative digital services to reach a wider segment of our viewers globally, especially in the digital and virtual technology areas and the means of social communication,” he added.
