Qatar is playing an importance diplomatic roles through mediation and helping other nations in resolving disputes by peaceful means and enhancing dialogue in various regions around the world, including Africa said the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation in the United Republic of Tanzania H E Fatma Mohammed Rajab.
Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), she commended the Qatari efforts to bring peace and reduce conflicts, adding that the world grew further interconnected and interdependent. She urged Qatar to continue mediation efforts until the world becomes free of conflicts as people worldwide need and deserve to live in peace and in countries free of disputes.
Her Excellency hailed the State of Qatar’s humanitarian, development and relief approaches, as a leading country that provides aid to African countries amid disasters and crises, as well as its assistance in fields of education, health and small, medium and micro enterprises, stressing that the development aid provided by Qatar plays a crucial role in supporting economic, social and political sectors as well as mitigating poverty in developing countries.
Hailing the excellent Qatari-Tanzanian relations, Her Excellency said that diplomatic relations between the two countries were launched in December 1982 and the State of Qatar opened its embassy in the capital Dar es Salaam in 2012, while Tanzania opened its embassy in Doha in 2017. Her Excellency added that she was the first Tanzanian ambassador to Doha, and that the commercial relations and common maritime customs and traditions further deepened historical and people-to-people ties between both countries.
Her Excellency added that the globally oriented State of Qatar’s development projects and trade and investment exchange made it in further harmony with Africa and particularly with Tanzania.
She noted that the bilateral trade and investment exchange does not reach the desired level, highlighting plans to develop and boost this cooperation in the coming period, particularly in sectors of livestock and tourism, in light of the positive cooperation the entire Arab world, including the State of Qatar, is seeking to enhance with Africa as its strategic depth and natural extension.
In her remarks to QNA, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation of the United Republic of Tanzania Ambassador H E Fatma Mohammed Rajab said that based on the 2014 labour agreement between the State of Qatar and the United Republic of Tanzania, which went into force, there are ongoing meetings to enable both sides to discuss regulations that ensure the efficient employment of Tanzanian workers.
Her Excellency expressed her admiration and support for all the reforms made by the State of Qatar regarding legislations and laws regulating work, especially as it delivers a message to all labor-exporting countries that their nationals will work in a better, fully protected environment. Her Excellency pointed out that her country did the same by reviewing the procedures for employing its citizens abroad and is keen on training and educating them before they travel to work abroad.
On Qatar’s hosting of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, H E Fatma Rajab stressed that Qatar will organise a tournament like no other as Qatar is ready to make history, not only by hosting the tournament but also because it’s the smallest country in terms of area and the first from the Middle East region to host a such great event. This event will allow visitors to wander the country effortlessly and watch more than one match on the same day, in addition to the country’s hospitality, Arabic culture and tradition, and perfect winter conditions. Not to mention the great preparations made by Doha and completed long before the tournament, which all prove Qatar’s success even before the start of the tournament.
On her country’s hosting of a large number of African refugees and how Tanzania deals with this file in light of the economic difficulties and the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation of the United Republic of Tanzania said that Tanzania since its independence has hosted millions of refugees from neighboring countries and currently hosts nearly 260,000 refugees on humanitarian grounds despite the economic challenges that the country faces. Her Excellency added that Tanzania did this out of its ethics imposed by local values, customs, and traditions, calling on all neighboring countries to comply with international standards and regional agreements regarding refugees and asylum seekers.
The Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation of the United Republic of Tanzania called on the international community to exert more efforts in providing the necessary support and sharing the essential burdens and responsibilities mentioned in the Global Compact on Refugees in light of the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic, the ongoing war in Ukraine, the lack of donors, and other economic difficulties while giving particular interest to the refugee situation in Tanzania given the fact that the geopolitical situation makes Tanzania a persistent and preferred destination for them.
