Doha, Qatar: The General Directorate of Endowments at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has launched the ‘Sponsoring a Student with Disabilities’ Endowment to provide sustainable educational support for students with disabilities, with 36 students benefiting from educational grants funded through the Endowment Fund for Scientific and Cultural Development last year.
A preacher at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, Abdullah Mohammed Al-Naama said that the initiative aims to empower people with disabilities through education and rehabilitation, reflecting the values of justice, human dignity, and social responsibility, while supporting their active participation in society and contributing to sustainable human development, in coordination with specialised organisations.
He added that the endowment stems from the vision of the General Directorate of Endowments to direct endowment resources towards development initiatives with lasting impact. He highlighted that education is one of the most important tools for building individuals and empowering them, noting that the endowment aims to provide sustainable educational opportunities that enable people with disabilities to develop their abilities and contribute to serving their country and society.
He noted that the General Directorate of Endowments has been keen to establish effective partnerships with specialised educational institutions, most notably Al Tamkeen Inclusive School, to provide an advanced learning environment that addresses the needs of students with disabilities through modern facilities, technological tools, and educational and rehabilitation programmes, ensuring the best possible outcomes for beneficiaries.
He pointed out that the department’s efforts are not limited to launching the endowment but extend to supporting numerous initiatives and programmes aimed at people with disabilities.
During the past year, 36 male and female students benefited from educational grants allocated for students with disabilities and supported by the Endowment Fund for Scientific and Cultural Development.
The department also supported the Qatar Autism Society through a strategic partnership, with its services benefiting 2,123 beneficiaries, in addition to 556 beneficiaries from swimming programmes. It also supported programmes of the Qatar Society for Rehabilitation of Special Needs, which benefited 121 beneficiaries, reflecting the expanding social impact of endowment initiatives.
He explained that the endowment embodies the concept of justice in practice by providing educational opportunities for groups requiring additional support.
He added that the endowment aligns with several humanitarian and development values.
