DOHA: To undertake works, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) will make a temporary traffic diversion from today on Al Rayyan Road westbound from Olympic Roundabout (Sports Roundabout) to 22 February Intersection at the Intersection of Jassim Bin Hamad with Al Rayyan Road.
Westbound vehicles from Sports Roundabout will be diverted onto a parallel and adjacent three-lane road that reconnects with Al Rayyan Road before 22 February Intersection.
The diversion will allow for construction of Al Rayyan Road underpass as part of upgrade and construction of Al Rayyan Road. Works last 18 months.
The underpass will allow commuters from Al Rayyan Road driving eastbound to access Jassim Bin Hamad Street without having to go to Sports Roundabout and allows traffic from Jassim Bin Hamad Street to head east without going through 22nd February Intersection.
Park to be closed
Also as part of Al Rayyan Project Contract two, which consists of construction and upgrade of Al Rayyan Road, Al Rayyan Park (Al Busat Al Akhdar) adjacent to Al Rayyan Road will be closed on Friday for reconstruction work in the area. The park will also undergo renovation.
A section of the park was closed in December to carry out phase one of an upgrade implemented in coordination with the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning. Renovation works are expected to be completed by 2015-end.
Works include renovating facilities of the park, including the fence, walkways and lighting system. A jogging track will be introduced so visitors can have a wider choice of sports to exercise.
