Doha: Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani yesterday sent a cable of congratulations to Canada’s Governor-General David Lloyd Johnston on his country’s National Day.
Deputy Emir H H Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Thani also sent a cable to Johnston.
Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani sent a similar congratulatory cable to Johnston.
Doha: Foreign Minister H E Dr Khalid bin Mohamed Al Attiyah has received an invitation from his Norwegian counterpart Borge Brende to attend Oslo Summit on Education for Development in the Norwegian Capital this month. Assistant Foreign Minister for International Cooperation Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdurrahman bin Jassim Al Thani received the invitation during a meeting with Norway’s Non-Resident Ambassador Sten Anders Berge.
Doha: The Foreign Ministry has launched the second version of its smartphone application under the name ‘Foreign Ministry - Qatar’ developed as a means of communication with Qataris abroad to help them in emergency. Dr Said Mohammed Al Kuwari, Director, Information Systems and Technology Department, and heads of concerned departments were present.
The app is characterised by a secured information recording service before citizens travel and GPS in emergency. Citizens can also send emergency requests to the ministry through the app. The app also provides information to connect with accredited Qatari missions and those of brotherly and friendly countries in the state, information about visas for Qataris in all countries and non-Qataris coming to Qatar and the ministry’s latest news.
Dr Al Kuwari said the launch reflects the ministry’s keenness to ensure safety of citizens abroad and commitment to provide the best services. He said the app has been redesigned and includes new services and information. He urged citizens to benefit from information and services available in the app such as registration before travelling to enable the ministry to communicate with them when they need help.
Schools asked to cut working hours
DOHA: The Supreme Education Council has asked all Independent schools to reduce working timings by one hour for their employees. According to a circular issued by SEC, the revised working hours will be from 9am to 1pm.
