Doha: Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) today announced that Professor Peter Woodruff has been appointed as Chairman of Psychiatry; a key development for HMC as they work towards a transformation of mental health services in Qatar, in keeping with the National Mental Health Strategy 2013-2018.
Professor Woodruff arrives from the University of Sheffield in the UK where he has been Professor of Academic Clinical Psychiatry and Head of the Department of Psychiatry, since 1999. There he set up the internationally renowned Sheffield Cognition and Neuroimaging Laboratory (SCANlab) and was Deputy Head of Neuroscience. His research interests include studies of the phenomenology and pathophysiology of schizophrenia, identifying mechanisms that lead to auditory hallucinations, and determining how these symptoms may be alleviated using new techniques and treatments.
