Doha: As a part of the International Labour Day, MES Indian School conducted an awareness seminar on welfare schemes for non-resident Indians (NRIs) for the staff.

Rauf Kondotty, a prominent expat social worker, was the speaker and resource person of the day. He explained to the audience the various existing schemes including the pension scheme offered by the central and state governments of India, from which people can benefit.

He urged all non-residents of India to join in such schemes to secure hassle-free expatriate life as well as the life beyond retirement.

He said that all such schemes of the governments come at nominal and affordable fees and hence low-income groups can also benefit.

He also lamented that a very small section of the expatriate community takes interest in knowing about the facilities offered.

It is the duty of the Indian community to share the information and people should have the knowledge about these life-changing schemes which are highly beneficial both for the individual and for the family in the long run, he added. He also emphasised the importance of registering with Non-Resident Keralites Affairs (NORKA) and their employment cell, and training programmes offered to Keralites.

School principal Hameeda Kadar, in her speech, thanked the presenter for a session replete with key information and remarked that the session proved to be an eye-opener in more than one way as the employees got to know valuable information about the schemes initiated by the Indian government, and recommended the members of the staff to become the members of such welfare schemes so as to avail the benefits rightfully.

Mohammed Rashid, Head of admin and facilities, coordinated the event; and Baby Shana, Head of Academic Inspection, delivered a vote of thanks for the session.
