More than 6,000 imported shipments weighing about 12 tonnes of different types of agricultural products were inspected last month by the Agriculture Quarantine Office at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment.
The Agriculture Quarantine Office at the Ministry also destroyed 151 consignments of more than 21 tonnes for being infected with quarantine or non-quarantine pests in violation of Agricultural Quarantine Law.
It also inspected 10 consignments of 135 tonnes of various agricultural goods exported from Qatar, and issued health certificates for the exported or re-exported consignments. The agricultural quarantine is the first line of defence and precautionary measure to protect plants from risk of pests. It stipulates to subject all plants, agricultural products and other regulated substances to its procedures in order to ensure compliance with the applicable conditions and specifications.
