Netizens expressed their discomfort over the alleged speech of Mary Jane Veloso’s mother, denying President Aquino’s role on the temporary reprieve given by the Indonesian government to her daughter.
Netizens responded over social media, feeling ungrateful over the accusations given by the Velosos towards the government.
Sharing sympathy to President Aquino some people gave their opinions followed by the hashtags “ituloy ang bitay” (#ItuloyAngBitay) and “isama si nanay” (#IsamaSiNanay). People thought Veloso’s mother was better off executed in Indonesia.
A certain Kat Manogsong posted on her twitter account, “Kinda disppointed that MJ Veloso’s mom had to say that to the government.”
Netizen Ronald Munsayac, however, attributed the actions of Mary Jane’s mother to the influence of militants over her. He tweeted, “Unfortunately, Veloso’s mom was used by the militants who’d blame the government for everything. Now she’s seen as ungrateful. Tsk”.
Veloso’s mother, Celia, expressed her sentiments over the government’s alleged slow response to her daughter’s execution. She added that President Aquino should not take credit for the reprieve given after his last minute appeal to Indonesian President Joko Widodo.
Velsoso’s mother claimed that it was the efforts of activists, the media and religious groups that paved the way for the temporary halt on Mary Jane’s execution.
In a media interview in Cebu, President Aquino replied to the accusations given by the Veloso family, saying the government did its best to help save Mary Jane from deathrow. He pointed that she was arrested before he assumed the presidency.
“We did what we could. We were not involved in the creation of the problem. You must remember she was arrested, if I am not mistaken, April of 2010,” said Aquino.
