Doha: The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has completed Al Aziziya tank project for rainwater collection, in cooperation with Aspire Zone, to enhance the rainwater drainage networks in Al Aziziya area.

The tank was designed and constructed underground with a capacity of 28,000 cubic meters as an alternative to using almost 3,000 tankers for dewatering. The depth of digging the tanker reached 90,000 cubic meters which is equivalent to digging 35 Olympic swimming pools. Latest techniques have been used in this project to accelerate the construction process within the preparation plan for FIFA World Cup 2022.

Eng. Khalid Saif Al Khayareen, Drainage Networks Projects Department Manager in Ashghal, said that cooperation between Ashghal and Aspire Zone contributed towards completing the project design in record time.

Teams assigned from both parties coordinated directly through common workshops to establish design solutions that are in line with the initiatives of environmental sustainability applied by Ashghal. Under the supervision of Parsons International, the project was contracted to Metito Overseas Company as the main specialised contractor on the project.

Al Khayareen clarified that there were preliminary plans established to ensure operational efficiency for the project since the first day of the implementation using a rainwater lagoon, in addition to providing pipelines and pumping rooms with a follow-up of their regular maintenance until the completion of the project.

The team successfully completed the project in record time with a 20% cost reduction despite the challenges and circumstances that faced all countries in the world caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, he added.

A public relations team was assigned to communicate with the stakeholders to take notes relevant to the implementation works of the project and its effect on them.
