Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, through its General Administration of Awqaf, implemented the Iftar initiative during the holy month of Ramadan, serving over 1,200 fast-breaking individuals daily at its Al-Aziziya site alone before the activity was suspended on Saturday amid ongoing developments.

This initiative, part of the Endowment Fund for Righteousness and Piety, aims to strengthen social solidarity, support workers and underprivileged individuals, and provide a dignified environment for performing the fast.

Beyond providing meals, the project integrates educational, guidance, and awareness programmes for participants. These programmes are delivered in collaboration with government entities such as the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Public Health, and Ministry of Municipality, alongside private sector participation for the first time.

The initiative operated across multiple locations with precise organisational and health standards, ensuring smooth access, safety, and nutritious meals prepared according to approved guidelines. Ministry staff supervise operations on-site to manage participants effectively and provide all necessary services.

The project primarily targets low-income workers and individuals unable to prepare their own iftar meals due to work or housing constraints, offering them a safe and welcoming environment.

As part of its educational dimension, the General Directorate of Civil Defence conducted awareness and guidance sessions in Urdu at the Al-Aziziya site, addressing common fire safety practices, proper use of fire extinguishers, and emergency response measures. Participants were also informed about the risks of electrical hazards and gas leaks, emphasising regular safety checks and adherence to preventive measures.

The Al-Aziziya tent exemplifies the integration of endowment work with awareness and service initiatives, reflecting Qatar’s spirit of solidarity and compassion during Ramadan.

The General Administration of Awqaf highlighted that these programmes transform the “Iftar” initiative into a comprehensive community platform combining feeding, education, and awareness within an organised institutional framework.

The efforts reinforce the concept of endowment as a sustainable developmental tool, promoting public safety and preventive culture while maximising social and humanitarian impact during the holy month.
