Qatar Charity has launched many development projects including those related to income-generation at a cost of QR3.6m in Ronqatas in Central Darfur, Sudan. The move aimed at improving the living condition of people in the targeted areas.
The projects were inaugurated in ceremony held in Darfur. The event was attended by Darfur Governor, Jaafar Abdel-Hakam
The projects funded by Qatar Development Fund (QDF) include rehabilitation center for disables, clubs, a farmer’s market, and solar-powered plants. This is in addition to maintaining water pumps, conducting awareness-raising sessions, and first aid courses. Both Sudanese official and local people confirmed that such project will have a good impact on development in Darfur.
During the ceremony held to mark the occasion, Central Darfur Governor, Jaafar Abdel-Hakam, appreciated the effort made by QC in making peace and achieving development in Darfur, reaffirming the long-standing and robust relations between Qatar and Sudan at both official and non-governmental levels. Qatar, via its charities, plays a major role in achieving peace and social harmony, and providing humanitarian needs for the people of Darfur, Abdel-Hakam added.
QC projects have contributed to the development of the region economically, administratively and culturally, said Hasab Nabi, the Commissioner of Wadi Azoum. We thank Qatar and QC for their help that contributed to the achievement of voluntary repatriation of the displaced people.
QC has implemented income-generating project in Ronqatas including distribution of 20 carts, benefiting 240 individuals, nine auto rickshaws which will provide 90 job approtunities, and 10 water pumps benefiting 1,200 individuals.
QC has established a number of construction projects that serve thousands of people. The projects included a rehabilitation center for disables, a community reconciliation department, fruit and vegetable market, two solar-powered plants, clubs, in addition to maintaining manual water pump. The projects aimed at raising the level of development and increasing the productivity of households.
QC conducted first aid courses, facilitated two awareness- raising conveys, run sports courses, and capacity-building courses. The total cost of projects reached QR3,650,000 funded by Qatar Development Fund (QDF).
