Earthquake hits Northeastern Iran

Tehran - An earthquake measuring 5.8 magnitude on the Richter scale shook Torbat Heydariyeh in the northeastern Iranian province of Khorasan Razavi on Thursday morning.

The quake was located in Khaf at a depth of 8 km, reported the Iranian news agency (IRNA).

No report has yet been released on the possible casualties or damages.

Iran suffers repeatedly from earthquakes because it lies over a main fault zone. The country's deadliest quake was of 7.4 magnitude that hit the country in 1990 and left 37,000 dead and 100,000 injured
