The Technical Committee for the Promotion of Private Sector Engagement at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce yesterday announced that the Bu Sulba Logistics area is ready for inauguration, signalling the start of the operations of logistic areas.
Gulf Warehousing Company Q.S.C. (GWC) was awarded the contract to develop the Bu Sulba Logistics Hub which has been accomplished in the scheduled timeframe, and is one of the major initiatives aiming to encourage partnership with the private sector. The Bu Sulba logistics hub is a self-contained facility built on 517,375 sqm of area.
The Chairman of the Technical Committee for the Promotion of Private Sector Engagement, Mohammed Hassan Al Sa’adi, emphasized the importance of GWC-Bu Sulba Logistics Hub for development of logistic sector in the country. He added that warehousing units of different sizes will be available at competitive prices for companies and for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), in particular. It will contribute to narrowing the gap between demand and supply in warehousing market and create job opportunities, Al Sa’adi noted.
The warehousing units of different cool and dry spaces optimized for SMEs include container yard, staff accommodation, a mosque, first-aid unit and commercial and other amenities and gives flexible storage solutions, said Chairman Sheikh Abdulla bin Fahad bin Jassem bin Jabor Al-Thani, Chairman of the Board of Directors of GWC. It is the outcome of the cooperation between the private sector and the government seeking to support the SMEs and find effective logistics solutions.
Fahad Rashid Al Kaabi, CEO of the of Economic Zones Company – Manateq, said the warehousing area will create new investment opportunities for private sector and fill the deficit in the storage market need for development of SMEs. This initiative is expected to curb the rents of warehouses.
The Bu Sulba site is expected to provide its services to the food and FMCG general goods sector, with distribution mainly catering to the needs of South to Central Doha stretching up to Gharaffa as well as Al Wakra.
The MEC offered during the fourth quarter of 2014 four plots for the construction of warehousing areas with the aim of providing with solutions to the current deficit in storage spaces in the local market with competitive rent prices.
