Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Municipality has inaugurated Nabaq Park in Al Thumama and Athl Park in Al Mi’raadh. The parks were designed and developed in coordination with the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) in accordance with the highest international standards.

This initiative is part of the Ministry’s ongoing beautification and development plans aimed at enhancing quality of life, expanding green spaces, and improving public services, in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030, particularly the pillars of sustainable development, environmental stewardship, and community well-being.

The opening ceremony was attended by Abdullah Ahmed Al-Karrani, Assistant Undersecretary for General Services Affairs, along with a number of officials from the Ministry of Municipality and the Public Works Authority.

In this context, Eng. Abdullah Ahmed Al-Karrani emphasized that the inauguration of these new parks aligns with the implementation of the Ministry of Municipality’s Strategy 2024–2030 and the Third National Development Strategy 2030, which prioritize the continuous expansion of green areas and the establishment of more parks across all regions. This reflects the directives of Qatar’s wise leadership to advance urban environmental quality and provide recreational and health-enhancing facilities that meet community needs.

He added that the Ministry is working according to a comprehensive plan to increase per-capita green space and improve quality of life in residential areas by developing new parks, upgrading existing ones, and equipping them with modern facilities suitable for all age groups.

Al-Karrani noted that expanding green spaces throughout all regions remains a top priority, as it is essential for achieving sustainable environments and building healthy cities in line with Qatar National Vision 2030. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to continuing the implementation of high-impact projects that enhance the urban landscape and create safe, attractive, and environmentally friendly public spaces.

Nabaq Park in Al Thumama spans a total area of 3,723 m², of which green spaces account for 67% (approximately 2,494 m²). The park includes a diverse selection of trees, shrubs, ground covers, and green lawns. It also features a 181-meter jogging track, a dedicated children’s play area for ages 6–12, a fitness zone, shaded seating areas, pathways, and fully equipped restrooms for men and women, all designed with full accessibility to meet the needs of persons with disabilities.

Athl Park in Al Mi’raadh covers an area of 3,368 m², with 55% of the area designated as green space (1,865 m²). The park contains 40 trees, various ornamental plants including shrubs, hedges, and ground covers, as well as a 192-meter jogging track, a children’s play area, 776 m² of pathways, seating areas, and well-equipped restrooms. Its design ensures accessibility and provides a comfortable and inclusive visitor experience for all.

The inauguration of these two parks forms part of a broader series of development projects being implemented across various municipalities, aimed at creating healthier and safer urban environments, encouraging residents to engage in recreational and sports activities, and promoting a culture of sustainability. These efforts contribute to enhancing the aesthetic character of residential areas and supporting national goals to build greener, higher-quality, and more prosperous cities.
