DOHA: The Friday sermons delivered at 250 mosques across Qatar highlighted the dangers of speeding and reckless driving, urging motorists to observe traffic regulations and recognise their responsibility to protect lives and property.
The initiative was organised by the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, represented by its Mosques Department, in partnership with the Ministry of Interior as part of national efforts to promote traffic safety and raise awareness of dangerous driving practices.
Under the theme “Preserving Lives and Highlighting the Dangers of Speeding and Reckless Driving”, 250 Friday preachers across the country addressed the importance of safeguarding human life and adhering to road safety rules, using religious teachings to reinforce responsible behaviour among road users.
The preachers stressed that protecting human life is one of the fundamental objectives of Islamic Shariah and a religious duty that requires individuals to take all necessary precautions to avoid endangering themselves or others.
They explained that complying with traffic laws and regulations is consistent with Islamic principles of preserving life, protecting rights and preventing harm. The sermons also warned that reckless driving, excessive speeding and disregard for safety rules contradict Islamic teachings, which prohibit causing harm to oneself or others.
Referring to the Prophetic principle, “There should be neither harm nor reciprocating harm”, the preachers emphasised that every individual is responsible for their actions and the consequences they may have on others. They cautioned that neglecting safety measures or engaging in dangerous driving could result in loss of life, damage to property and putting other road users at risk.
The sermons further highlighted that roads are shared spaces and that respecting the rights of other users and refraining from causing them harm are essential aspects of faith and good conduct.
The initiative reflects the Mosques Department’s efforts to strengthen the role of religious platforms in addressing national and community priorities. With their extensive reach across the country, Friday sermons provide an effective channel for communicating awareness messages to different segments of society.
The department continues to implement programmes aimed at expanding the mosque’s community role and using religious discourse to address social issues, promote ethical values, strengthen community safety and support sustainable development.
The partnership between the two ministries also highlights the importance of institutional cooperation in addressing issues affecting public safety.
While the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs contributes through religious guidance and community awareness, the Ministry of Interior provides specialised expertise in traffic safety.
Both ministries’ efforts aim to reinforce a shared understanding that protecting lives and reducing road accidents require coordinated action, consistent awareness messages and greater public commitment to preventive measures.
