
DOHA: GCC Chambers Union, in association with Qatar Chamber and Exicon International Group, will organise the Gulf Economic Forum on October 25 and 26 in Doha.
Officials representing GCC ministries of commerce, industry, finance, planning and economy will participate in the event along with chairmen and board members of chambers of commerce and concerned organizations, institutions and offices as well as researchers in the economic, social and political fields.
Held under the theme of enhancing the contribution of the Gulf private sector in economic development, the forum aims to serve as a platform for the private sector to deliver its vision on economic development in the region and removing obstacles hindering commercial exchange between GCC states.
The forum reviews regional and international challenges facing GCC states in light of the economic crisis, regional developments and the decline in oil prices. GCC Chambers Union Chairman HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al-Thani said the event aims to enable the GCC private sector to up its contribution to development projects and the gross domestic product besides supporting entrepreneurs in building GCC economies.
The forum tackles several issues, mainly the march of joint GCC economic action, economic and information structural reforms, the role of private sector in sustainable development, future aspects of customs unification and GCC joint market, the nationalization of jobs in GCC and limiting the phenomenon of reliance on foreign labor, fighting poverty and raising living standards for GCC citizens, women empowerment, and enhancing the role of small- and medium-sized enterprises in the nationalisation of jobs.
