DOHA: Issa Abdul Salam Abu Issa, Chairman and CEO of Salam International Investment Ltd. (SIIL) was honoured for his outstanding contribution to Qatar’s business landscape at the 2012 Arabian Business Achievement Awards ceremony, a press statement said yesterday.
The Arabian Business Achievement Awards, that took place on September 24, is the premier event in the Middle East business calendar. Each year, the awards celebrate the very best in Arab business achievements, both on a corporate and individual level.
For more than a decade, the event has attracted and honoured the biggest names in the Gulf business community. While the Arabian Business Achievement Awards have been hosted previously in Kuwait, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, this year, the event included Qatar, as a salute to a nation owning a phenomenal growth record and proving its resilience in the face of a keenly felt global economic downturn.
As a respected Qatari businessman, at the helm of one of the nation’s oldest and most successful conglomerates, Issa Abdul Salam Abu Issa’s leadership was recognised, as he won the evening’s most prestigious honour. The organizers of the event said that the awards sought to felicitate achievers who stood head and shoulders above their peers while displaying exemplary business acumen and commendable leadership. This award for outstanding contribution to business marks the 3rd award won by Issa Abdul Salam Abu Issa in the recent years.
In 2007, at the 2nd Qatar Economic Forum, he was conferred with an award, by H E
Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabor Al Thani, the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar, in recognition of Salam International’s contribution to the local economy. In 2010, he won “Businessman of the Year” at the Arabian Business Achievement awards.
At this year’s event, Abu Issa was credited by Arabian Business for many an achievement, including having a steady hand on the wheel as he led the transformation of his family owned business into a publicly traded company, the first such entity to be listed at the Qatar Exchange.
On the International front he holds membership in the World Economic Forum & The Arab Business Council. He serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Salam Bounian and is the Secretary General of the Qatari Businessmen Association, Qatar’s leading Non-Governmental organization. He is also Co-Chairman of the Qatari-Turkish Business Council.
Commenting on his win he said “I am truly honoured by this recognition.
