DOHA: ExxonMobil Qatar recently hosted a three-day workshop on managing change as part of its ongoing efforts to deliver maximum value for its valued joint venture partners, RasGas and Qatargas. The course focused specifically on challenges faced by human resources professionals during organisational change management.

Facilitators from ExxonMobil’s Global Organizational Effectiveness Center of Expertise led the training session that was geared specifically towards human resources support for change. “A key focus for ExxonMobil is to continually provide development opportunities for employees and our joint venture partners,” explained Bart Cahir, President and General Manager of ExxonMobil Qatar. “Transitions are a part of every organisation, and change is an essential process that – if managed well– helps ensure successful outcomes. We are very proud to offer this specialized training session from industry-leading experts at our Global Organizational Effectiveness Center of Expertise.”

Organisational change management refers to the process of shifting the organisation from its current state to a future state. It can refer to a specific project, unit, or division or to the organization as a whole, and the process lies heavily in the communication with and engagement of stakeholder groups. The training session encompassed key change management concepts, models, and tools, examined the various roles human resources professionals can play, and enhanced facilitation skills by enabling understanding of personal reactions to change. The training methods included presentations, simulations, learning groups, discussions, and applications to relevant business cases.

As well, each participant was required to identify a “Back at Home” project: An opportunity for each attendee to apply their change management skills and knowledge to a specific project in their workplace within the next six months. The project needed to hold significant involvement and responsibility for the participant, and involved presenting the business opportunity, identifying the desired business outcome, and detailing the participant’s role and responsibilities.

Overall, human resources professionals attending the Management of Change training course learned about their role in supporting leadership teams and project teams in managing effective change and addressing the potential impact on safety, productivity and employee engagement as they transition through the change.

ExxonMobil Qatar regularly hosts training sessions and workshops on a wide range of subject matters for its joint venture partners and employees with the overall aim of ensuring the sustained success of Qatar’s energy industry. ExxonMobil believes that professional development opportunities not only provide benefit for the organizations themselves, but individual attendees also derive personal benefits in terms of increased knowledge and skills, confidence and a greater network of colleagues among their peers atRasGas, Qatargas and ExxonMobil Qatar.
