The Public Works Authority announced the completion of Phase 1 of the roads and infrastructure project in Fareej Al Mawater, which included the construction of a road to link Fareej Al Mawater to Rawdat Rashid Road and provide it with the required infrastructure. The new road will serve the stores and workshops that are currently being developed in Fareej Al Mawater project.
Eng. Ahmed Mohammed Al Obaidly (pictured), Head of South Areas Section at the Roads Projects Management Department in Ashghal, said that Al Mawater City project, which is located in the proximity of Rawdat Rashid area and Salwa Road, is the first of its kind in Qatar as it will provide one location for all the activities related to both used and new vehicles including dealer shops, workshops, spare parts stores, and the associated governmental services including Traffic Department Offices, vehicle inspection facilities, civil defence and municipality office in addition to banks, insurance companies, etc.
Eng. Ahmed Al Obaidly added: “The new road is 1.8km long and it has three lanes in each direction with a separating median. It starts from the first roundabout on the new Rawdat Rashid Road and surrounds two sides of Al Mawater City. The road includes two signal-controlled intersections to connect to the local roads within the new development of Al Mawater City.”
Al Obaidly also noted that the works completed within this phase included the installation of lighting poles, in addition to construction of a new electrical substation to energize the road luminaires and traffic lights. Safety barriers have been installed along the road in addition to traffic signboards and interlock. The road provides the new developments of Al Mawater with essential utilities including water, electricity, telecommunication services, etc.
This is in addition to constructing 1.8 km swales on each side of the road for surface water drainage. These collect flows to temporary attenuation facilities which are connected to an emergency flooding area. The new road has been constructed by Boom Construction and Lotus Trading and Contracting JV. It is part of the Local Areas Infrastructure programme which is currently being run by Ashghal to construct and upgrade roads and infrastructure across Qatar and provide integrated infrastructure for new subdivisions.
