Geneva: Qatar has reiterated its firm stance in support of the Palestinian people’s struggle to recover their legitimate rights and establish their independent sovereign state with capital in East Jerusalem.
This came in a speech by Ambassador Faisal bin Abdullah Al Henzab, Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organisations in Geneva, during a debate on the human rights situation in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories as part of the 29th session of Human Rights Council.
He said Israel continues to violate human rights of the Palestinian people, and deprive them of their full rights guaranteed by international charters and conventions — a matter which contravenes the international law and international humanitarian law. He said administrative arrests carried out by occupation authorities and presenting prisoners to mock courts have lacked the basics of fair trials and described them as disgraceful and shameful.
Doha: Qatar condemned the Israeli occupation forces’ interception of Freedom Flotilla III heading to Gaza and detention of former Tunisian president Moncef Marzouki.
The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that officials are following up on the situation in Gaza, continuation of Israeli violations and its cutting off humanitarian supplies to Gaza’s population, and called for the release of Marzouki and the rest of participants. The ministry called on the international community to take immediate action to stop Israeli abuse and lift the siege on Gaza, pointing to the deteriorating economic and humanitarian situation.
Cairo: Mohammed Al Haissami, Yemen’s Permanent Representative to Arab League, praised Qatar’s efforts towards humanitarian support for the Yemeni people and the air bridge established by Qatar for the transfer of aid.
In a statement, Haissami said: “We appreciate the brotherly generous aid provided by Qatar to Yemen to mitigate the bad humanitarian situation.” On the recent Geneva conference on Yemen, he said the forum was a preliminary consultation meeting.
