Doha: Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) has invited the local community to join its Garangao night today at Freej Aspire.
Garangao is celebrated at the end of the first half of Ramadan. During the night, children visit neighbourhoods in traditional dress and sing traditional songs to collect sweets.
AZF will celebrate Garangao with sport activities and entertainment for adults and children. Several organisations will take part.
Activities include Grandma Memo, Um Khalaf, a magician, kids’ crafts, traditional games and songs, storytelling, kids’ adventure movie Ponyo produced by Doha Film Institute and a competition for the best traditional dress. Three winners will each receive an iPhone and iPad device. Winners will be selected based on the number of “Likes” they generate on social media.
Nasser Abdullah Al Hajri, Marketing Director, AZF,  said: “We’re pleased to play our part in creating joy during the holy month. We invite everybody to join us for the Garangao night in Freej Aspire, where culture and heritage combine with happiness and joy. We constantly seek to create an atmosphere children and adults can enjoy.”
Freej Aspire is sin a new space that features the latest cooling technology to keep the temperature at 25 degrees Celsius.
AZF organised the layout of Freej in the shape of adjoining houses based on the traditional Liwan design and includes stores, handicraft workshops, storytelling booths, food stations and other elements to replicate the environment of an authentic Freej.
Freej Aspire is in Muhairjah (if travelling from Al Sadd, turn right at Muhairjah signal and Freej will be 500 metres after the signal on your left).
Freej Aspire activities, which run daily from 9:30pm to midnight,  include ‘Sloom Ahel Qatar’, organised in partnership with Qatar Charity to revive Qatari traditions and customs.
The programme includes lectures, forums, traditional competitions and opportunities for visitors to learn about photography, sailing, falcon training, and other traditional activities.
Freej Aspire also offers visitors the chance to experience sports and customs that reflect traditional values from across GCC such as the local Al Arda dance, Al Rababah shows, cultural lectures, shows by comedians and storytelling, in addition to activities to raise awareness of charity work and Qatar’s cultural heritage.
