Bridging gap between Islamic sciences and social sciences discussed

Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs yesterday held a scientific workshop to discuss the most prominent challenges that hinder communication between Islamic sciences and social sciences and to discuss ways to address and activate them.

The event which was held in cooperation with Ibn Khaldon Centre for Humanities and Social Sciences of Qatar University and focused on presenting practical initiatives to bridge the gap between the fields of Islamic sciences and social sciences.

The workshop was attended by Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs H E Ghanem bin Shaheen Al Ghanem, a group of scholars and experts.

The workshop aims mainly at understanding the reasons that led to the gap between Islamic sciences and social sciences, identifying the challenges that hinder communication between the two fields, and presenting practical initiatives to bridge the gap between the fields of Islamic sciences and social sciences.

The workshop, which relied on the mechanism of free association and group thinking between researchers from the two fields, lasted for four hours, divided into two sessions.

The first session discussed two important questions: Why do forensic researchers not interact with Islamic sciences? Why do social researchers not interact with forensic sciences? The second session discussed proposals for practical initiatives to bridge the gap between the two fields.

Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs was represented by Sheikh Dr. Ahmed bin Muhammad bin Ghanem Al Thani, Director of the Department of Research and Islamic Studies; and a number of scholars of the ministry, including: Malallah Abdul Rahman Al Jaber, Dr. Jaber Salem Al Daiya, Muhammad Jassim Al Jassim, Jassim Abdullah Al Ali and Abdul Rahman Abdullah Al Ali.

Ibn Khaldon Centre for Humanities and Social Sciences was represented by Dr. Nayef Nahar Al Shammari, Director of the Center, and a number of researchers and thinkers.

They are Prof. Dr. Al Tijani Abdel-Qader, Head of the Department of Social Sciences at the Centre; Dr. Asma Malkawi, Assistant Research Professor in Sociology; Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar Al Shanqeeti, Associate Professor of International Relations at Qatar University; Prof Dr. Abdel-Qader Bahoush, Head of the Department of Faith and Da’wah at Qatar University; Prof Dr. Hamid Abdel-Majid Qweissi, Adviser to the President of Qatar University and Professor of Political Science among many others.
