Qatar’s PPI up 87.79% Y-o-Y in April

Doha: Qatar’s monthly Producer Price Index (PPI) is estimated at 161.31 points in April 2022 showing an increase of 10.74 percent when compared with previous month. On year-on-year (Y-o-Y) basis PPI of April 2022 showed a rise of 87.79 percent.

The ‘Mining’ sector of PPI registered an increase of 11.77 percent when compared with PPI of March 2022, primarily due to the price increasing of “Crude petroleum and natural gas” by 11.79 percent, and “Other mining and quarrying” decreased by 1.95 percent. PPI of April 2022 when compared with its counterpart in previous year (April 2021), there was an increase of 99.65 percent.

In ‘Manufacturing’ sector an increase of 5.85 percent has been recorded in April 2022, when compared with the previous month’s Manufacturing index (March 2022).

The prices increase is seen in: “Refined Petroleum products” by 8.5 percent, followed by “Chemicals and chemical products” by 6.29 percent, “Basic metals” by 5.39 percent, “Printing and reproduction of recorded media” 1.46%, “Cement & other non-metallic mineral products” by 0.90 percent. and “Beverages” by 0.61 percent.

However, the decreasing prices are noticed in “Rubber and Plastics products” by 1.96 percent  and “food products” by 0.74 percent.

Comparing with the index of counterpart in the previous year (April 2021), “Manufacturing” PPI of April 2022 showed an increase of 46.72 percent. The major groups which explain this price increase are: “Refined Petroleum products” by 71.12 percent, followed by “chemicals and chemical products” by 51.11 percent, “Basic metals” by 35.33 percent, “Rubber and Plastics products” by 34.03 percent, “Cement & other non-metallic mineral products” by 13.66 percent, and “food products” by 0.44 percent, However the decreasing prices are noticed in “Beverages” by 2.62 percent and “Printing and reproduction of recorded media” by 1.01 percent. 

The PPI of ‘Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply’ showed an increase of 0.31 percent compared to March 2022. When compared the PPI of April 2022, to the PPI of April 2021 [Y-o-Y], showed an increase of 7.85 percent. 

Also the PPI of ‘Water supply’ showed an increase of 0.74 percent compared to March 2022. When compared the PPI of April 2022, to the PPI of April 2021 [Y-o-Y], showed a decrease of 7.76 percent.
