Abdullah Abdulghani & Bros. Co. (AAB), the exclusive distributor of Toyota and Lexus in Qatar, and Qatar Chess Association (QCA) celebrated Eid Al Fitr with the Alone Together Online Chess Tournament.
Alone Together is the third edition of the Stay Home Online Chess tournament which began in the month of April. Concurrently, the tournament was run under the banner of FIDE Checkmate Coronavirus – a platform for tournaments where leading global chess players are also participating. Played on Lichess – an open source Internet Chess server, chess enthusiasts from all over the world are given the opportunity to participate. More than 1,200 chess enthusiasts with 40 Grand Masters and 180 Titled Players around the world participated.
Arjun Erigaisi secured first place in the Alone Together online chess tournament, Jose Martinez came second, Rauf Mamedov secured third place, Narayanan S.L. came fourth, Renato Terry came fifth while Alina Bivol was judged Best Female player.
Meanwhile, aside from the over-all winners, top three resident players were also recognized. Victor Bologan won first prize, Loyola Rolenson won second prize and Abdulrahim Al Mahyo won third prize. Best Qatari players were also announced. Mohamed Al Sayed won Best Qatari- Male prize, Kholoud Khulaifi won Best Qatari – Female prize.
Saleh Al Hor, Mohammed Al Qassabi and Layan Al Qassabi also won prizes.
Alone Together Online Chess Tournament gives a message of solidarity in the midst of social distancing measures in place. It is a reminder that flattening the curve and preventing the spread of coronavirus is depends primarily on everyone’s individual effort to maintain and observe proper hygiene, follow safety measures and comply with the government’s directives in their fight against COVID-19.
