LAGOS, Nigeria: Nine Boko Haram militants were have been killed in the Kala Balge area of Nigeria’s northeastern Borno State as troops pre-empted a massive attack planned on an army base.
Six soldiers were also injured in the encounter, according to army spokesman Col. Sani Usman.
“While on a patrol to foil the attack, troops encountered the terrorists at Tatakura village 20km [12 miles] southwest of Wumbi,” he added.
He said troops captured firearms, explosive, ammunition and motorcycles belonging to the group.
Usman also claimed six senior Boko Haram commanders were arrested in the same area.
