Philippines eyes 'deepening cooperation' with Iran on energy
The Philippines is committed to "deepening cooperation" with Iran, particularly on energy, Manila's foreign secretary said on Wednesday as the import-dependent archipelago jockeys with other regional countries for desperately needed oil.
The price of fuel has hit historic highs in the Philippines since the United States launched strikes on Iran on February 28, with the war forcing the partial closure of the vital Strait of Hormuz.
President Ferdinand Marcos declared a state of national energy emergency last week, later saying that "nothing was off the table" as the country of 116 million tried to meet its need for fuel.
Foreign Secretary Theresa Lazaro said in a post on social media platform.
“Building on the momentum of our Political Consultations last November 2025, we are committed to deepening our cooperation across all fronts, particularly energy cooperation,” she said of the meeting. Read more

National Bank of Kuwait shuts headquarters amid Iran attacks
A major Kuwaiti bank said it will close its headquarters in the capital for two days starting Wednesday, as Iran carries out daily strikes on the Gulf more than one month into the Middle East war.
“National Bank of Kuwait will close its headquarters and Subhan branch today, Wednesday, and tomorrow, due to current developments and in the interest of everyone’s safety and business continuity,” the bank said in a statement carried by state news agency Kuna. Read more

Drone shrapnel kills Bangladeshi expat in UAE
Authorities in the Emirates of Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, announced that relevant authorities are responding to an incident caused by falling debris from a drone, which resulted in one fatality.
The Fujairah Media Office stated that the incident occurred in a farm in Al-Rifa'a area, caused by falling debris following the successful interception of a drone by air defenses.
“Shrapnel falling from the interception of a drone... resulted in the killing of a person of Bangladeshi nationality,” WAM posted on X, adding that the incident happened in Fujairah, which is close to the Strait of Hormuz.

Qatar Airways further revises flight schedules to more than 120 destinations
Qatar Airways has published its latest revised schedule, reflecting the gradual increase in flights to, and from, Doha to more than 120 destinations by mid-May 2026, across the airline’s global network.

QatarEnergy confirmed that the Aqua 1, a fuel oil tanker chartered to QatarEnergy, was the subject of a missile attack in the northern territorial waters of the State of Qatar in the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

The Ministry of Defence announced that the State of Qatar was targeted today, April 1, 2026, by three cruise missiles launched from Iran.

Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari has called on all parties to the war to refrain from targeting vital civilian infrastructure.
Al-Ansari further called upon all parties to the conflict to refrain from attacking energy and nuclear infrastructure and urged them to return to the negotiating table. “Since this escalation began, we have warned against targeting vital civilian infrastructure. We have said it very clearly that this is a threat to all of us in the region. This region depends heavily on desalination (plants).
