Korean Film Festival was held at HBKU in which four Korean films depicting ‘family values, humanism and perseverance’ were screened.
“Originally we prepared 10 Korean movies and then selected four family films in coordination with HBKU,” said Heung-kyeong PARK, South Korean Envoy to Qatar.
He was speaking at the Hamad bin Khalifa University Students Center on the launch ceremony of Korean Film Festival.
First film “Forever the Moment” was a fictionalised account of the Korean Women’s handball team which competed in the 2004 Athens Summer Olympics.
“It may be called an underdog film about underdogs portraying conflicts in women’s lives, their personal struggles and triumphs. The other three films also provided different features of Korean lives and experiences,” said Park.
He said that Korean drama, films and K-pops had gained popularity in many countries across the world since the 1990s.
“Then Korean government allowed the creation of 300 cultural industry departments in Korean colleges and universities, while it lifted many restrictions on cultural imports from foreign countries.”
