The Ministry of Energy and Industry said yesterday that revision of fuel prices in Qatar in line with international prices is intended to rationalise the use of fuel in the country and mitigate the negative environmental impacts.
The Ministry said in a statement that the prices of fuel in Qatar are on an average compared to the prices in other GCC states. The move is also aimed to curb fuel smuggling and ensure optimal use of the country’s resources.
A special committee has been formed to study and set the fuel prices. The committee consists of members from Ministry of Energy and Industry, Ministry of Finance, Qatar Petroleum, Ministry of Economy and Commerce and Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics.
The committee responsible for revising the prices take into account international prices for 90 days with a view to limit the impact of price fluctuations. The operational cost of fuel stations is added to this while fixing the monthly prices. Such practices are followed internationally to improve the behaviour of motorists and reduce the environmental impact of fuel consumption, said the Ministry
